In the Style of WELS Southerner

(camera angle was too narrow to capture the hand motions, we'll get it right next time!)

Good afternoon.\! This is Philip Hahn. I am the layman behind the Nihil Rule blog.

It is nice to meet you face to face. So, those of you that have been following me for a while will remember that last summer we did a blog post on a video by WELS Southerner, who has been quiet recently, my friend. You should speak up more. But at the end of that blog post, I mentioned that if I ever got doxed, I was totally going to go to the comfy chair and talk to the camera mode. So, here's my first stab at it. I want to give you a bit of update on what's going on with the blog now and in the near future. Um so as I mentioned a month ago, I have a Substack with my own name on it. It's at The Other Dr. Phil. And over there I will be focusing more on the synthesis of things. Combining ideas, evaluating external ideas to the wells and trying to kind of build using the mind of Christ, build up a Christian viewpoint of the world. And so that's been something that has been mixed in the blog along with the woke and the wells stuff and the wells white pills and some other things that I just, you know, report and react. So more of the reporting and reacting will occur here at the Nihill rule and more of the discussion, dialoguing, teasing at ideas will occur over at the Substack. That way we kind of split just the facts ma'am over here with the these are Phil's ideas and he believes they're well within the Lutheran confessions, but he's a man and he could be wrong.

Over here at the Nihil Rule blog, you should expect to see anything that would fall under the categories of Woke in the WELS or a WELS Whitepill. And we got a whitepill coming up next week about the use of technology in the church. Pro tip: this white pill is using less of it. And I really look forward to sharing that with you guys. And then next month we have our Pride Month coming up. And I take great pride in Pride Month, as you guys know from last year, and I'm hoping to follow it up with a couple bangers.

Beyond that, over at the Substack, I will be discussing critical theory pretty heavily for the next couple months. Reason for that, the WELS Book of Reports and Memorials came out featuring two memorials on critical theory. This is pretty good. They were both written by the same layman, Mr. Brian E. Heinitz of Henderson, Nevada. I do not know Mr. Heinitz, but I would look forward to getting to know him. And regardless of whether or not I can talk with him, I would like to discuss three things. The first one is going through these memorials and explaining where I think they're great and where there may be some problems. Secondly, I would like to talk about my own experiences from the last convention cycle where I wrote a memorial that was the impetus behind the Pastoral Brief on Critical Theory that was released last fall. And then third, I would like to talk through some of the floor discussion that occurred at that convention. There were a number of men that spoke up at the convention from the floor. If you guys recall, they introduced the memorial late in the day and they had to adjourn in the morning and then the memorial was magically rewritten overnight. I want to talk through some of the things that occurred there because I think the floor discussion which is all on video and is all still available online even though, obviously, me being me I downloaded it the second it was available and transcribed it. That floor discussion encompassed a number of things from very good, excellent in fact to very bad. And I think if we talk through those perspectives and ideas, we can get a better idea one for what the problems are within our synod and then two for the probability of these memorials being successful and then three how we can move forward as a synod. Again, synod means walking together. And right now, when it comes to things like critical theory, when it comes to things like pronouns, when it comes to things like our seeming acceptance of LGBTQ+ beyond where perhaps our fathers or grandfathers would have, we're not walking together. So we need to talk through these things both here and at more official levels. Anyways, this is "Just a Layman" from the nihil rule signing off.
